It is a very common misconception that air-conditioning is only for cooling.  However, you would be surprised how well an air-conditioning unit will heat your home quickly and economically.  Below is a photograph of a unit we placed in a large kitchen which had no room for radiators.  This unit can be timed to come on and off in the morning so when the family get up, their kitchen is toasty warm.

We at Reliant Engineering were most surprised to read an article in a local newspaper recently that talked about how so many people close their doors on their conservatories at this time of the year until Spring arrives, as glass roofs draw in the cold as opposed to retaining the heat making these rooms icy cold.

Ever Wondered How Air Conditioning Works?:

The biggest job an air conditioner has to do is to either cool or heat the indoor air.  That's not all it does though.  Air conditioners monitor and regulate the air temperature via a thermostat.  They also have an onboard filter that removes airborne particulates from the circulating air.  Air conditioners function as dehumidifiers.  Because temperature is a key component of relative humidity, reducing the temperature of a volume of humid air causes it to release a portion of its moisture.  That's why there are drains near or attached to air conditioning units, and why air conditioners discharge water when they operate on humid days.

We often don't think about maintaining air-conditioning systems until they stop working - and it's 22 degrees outside.  You can plan to avoid this situation with some simple preventative maintenance.  It is better to pay less for maintenance on your system than to pay more for repairs.

"Since we have had the air-con unit installed, we can either heat the conservatory or cool it at the touch of a button in a matter of minutes. We are finally able to use the room that we never could!"
